Living Life Deliberately

The Dictionary definition of deliberate: “done cautiously and intentionally.” I would like to refer to these two scriptures today …

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”

(Deuteronomy 30:19)

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

(Joshua 24:15)

These two seem to elicit deliberate action, so there may be others which are similar.

Recently, I made a statement of declaration, while speaking with another person, i.e., “I live my life deliberately.” After I spoke the words, I began deliberating upon them. I then realized I had spoken rather flippantly.

The thought became clear: I may only think I have been deliberate.

I have been giving these past several years a cursory glance with this thought in mind. My tentative conclusion is: much of my personal deliberateness may have emerged out of strong inclinations. Perhaps a better conclusion is this: there may not be anything wrong with strong inclinations which ultimately lead to rightful actions.

I pray we will be awakened to a fresh awareness, i.e., “We’ve Come this far by Faith.” “Jesus Led me all the Way.”

Now, with those two songs as a foundation, let us sing together: “I Will Follow Where He Leadeth.”

Choose to mind God, not just be God-minded!

Be deliberate. Live this song:

“I would be true, for there are those who trust me;
I would be pure, for there are those who care;
I would be strong, for there is much to suffer;
I would be brave, for there is much to dare,
I would be brave, for there is much to dare.

I would be friend of all, the foe, the friendless;
I would be giving, and forget the gift;
I would be humble, for I know my weakness;
I would look up, and laugh, and love, and live,
I would look up, and laugh, and love, and live.

I would be prayerful through each busy moment;
I would be constantly in touch with God;
I would be tuned to sense God’s slightest whisper;
I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod,
I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod.”

(Howard Arnold Walter & Joseph Peek, “I Would be True“)

  1. I know you are a righteous woman, Proverbs 31:10-31. Its about time you decided to set your thoughts (and deep they are) to something permanent. Kudos! You did!! May you be always blessed by the ruach of haShem as you trudge along this path!
