“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.”
Aldous Huxley
Is it really, as someone has said, the language of the soul? An old hymn, I Have A Song, by Elton M. Roth, 1923 …
“I have a song that Jesus gave me
it was sent from Heaven above
there never was a sweeter melody
’tis a melody of love …”
Or, He Keeps me Singing, by L.B. Bridgers, 1938 …
“There’s within my heart a melody
Jesus whispers sweet and low
Fear not I am with you, peace be still
in all of life’s ebb and flow
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know
fills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go”
[bold emphasis mine]
He has given the song I sing. So as I sing, it becomes His “expression” (who He is in me). He is the song I sing, the breath I breathe. He is every word and every note.
He sings over me each and every moment of every day: the major chords, the minor chords, all the pauses, all the rests, puts them all together like no other, creating a symphony of harmony beyond this Earthly realm, making music the language of the soul in the deepest part of me which He gave and it still belongs to Him. It is a treasured gift He lets me hold until my tale is told, how He has led me all the way, and held me in His hand. He has brought me through the narrows, stilled the fiercest storms, lets me know He loves me in this strange, mysterious way.
“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
(Zephaniah 3:17)
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God, many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”
(Psalms 40:1-3)
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
(Psalms 111:10)
Listen to His song in the stillness … Be still and know His mystery.
